The Imel M1 Iambic Paddles are fine continuous wave (CW) instruments commissioned by the Bell-Imel Group, LLC. These paddles are machined and manufactured in a commercial machine shop using CNC machine tools calibrated to exacting tolerances.

Over 20 hours of machining, hand polishing, anodizing, fitting and assembly go into each instrument. The M1 four sealed bearings (two for each paddle arm) are fitted to close tolerances to reduce vertical play in the paddle arm near the contacts for the smoothest in high speed CW operations. The addition of a top plate bearing support delivers an instrument that is solid and robust.

The Imel M1 is machined out of solid blocks of aircraft grade, clear anodized aluminum side plates, top plate and paddle arms with a clear, black or red anodized base that resist oxidation, pitting, peeling and corrosion that commonly attacks CW instruments constructed from brass and chrome plated steel. The M1 is constructed to take the beating of daily use and still retain its original beauty. You will not have to continuously polish these paddles or worry about removing a protective coating to keep them looking nice. The top plate has an anodized bead blast finish to repel fingerprints.

The paddle arms are machined from light-weight aluminum and are further lightened to reduce angular momentum which allows the arms to accelerate quickly and return back to their original position.

The arms turn on sealed ball bearings located in the base and the top plate.

To further reduce angular momentum, the finger pieces are made from carbon fiber stock. These represent the strongest, lightest and stiffest finger pieces on the market today. You do not get that mushy feeling as found in iambic paddles with finger pieces made from plastic or acrylic. The carbon fiber material has a unique look with a weave that changes patterns as light reflects off the surface from different angles. The Imel M1 is the only paddle on the market today using carbon fiber finger pieces.

The M1 utilizes rare earth magnets configured to repulse each other on finely adjustable thumbscrews. This system provides a smooth action and wide adjustment band that is unattainable using springs. You can decrease the tension to where you can blow on the finger pieces to move them or increase the tension to where you have to really squeeze on the finger pieces.

Four gold contacts ensure the lowest residual resistance. Many paddles use brass or silver for contacts that oxidize and require frequent cleaning. Some higher end paddles use an alloy. Only the highest grade paddles use gold.

All adjustments (contacts and magnetic tension) use 32 thread per inch thumbscrews with thumbnuts to lock in your preferences.

Integrated 3.5 mm stereo jack. You will not find an ugly cable permanently attached to your paddles and you won’t have to wire your paddles after you receive them. Use the stereo cable of your choice with your paddles. Just plug in a cable with a 3.5 mm stereo plug on one end and the plug of your choice on the other.

Ribbed Finish. The Imel M1 features a unique “ribbed” finish on all vertical surfaces that is impervious to fingerprints. Horizontal surfaces feature a finish that will not peel, pit or oxidize like paddles manufactured using brass and chrome-plated steel. The Imel M1 retains its beauty over time.

Thumbnut seats. The highest consideration has been given to even the smallest detail. Notice the seats that have been machined into the side plates to provide a nest for the thumbscrews to sit and enable the tightest adjustments.
